RECESS brings together artists exploring media and their entanglements – with ‘nature’, culture and its wars, with itself, with the more/other than human.
Taking a recess, to deliberate, recover, play, escaping into or from, exploring or withdrawing.
Descending into Plato’s cave, with smudge sticks and breathing tubes, we pass each other with a nod – bringing offerings, taking inspiration, leaving no trace, but tracing our trajectories with chemtrails and sonic signatures, etched in stone, plastic, bytes.
Each artist interprets and responds to this ‘recess’ using technology as a tool, a medium, a material. Video, sound, data, objects, interaction, distributed devices, social relations as mediated constructions. In the recesses of our minds, we bring new possibilities to light, and shine a different light on the familiar.
