Nihil Coil is Colin Hill, a Denver-based video artist. He defines his work as analog processed video, captured and further manipulated in the digital realm. Drawing guidance from the works of luminaries such as Tachyons + and Yovozol, Colin gains inspiration for his creations from the movements of Retrofuturism and Cyberpunk.
Colin’s recent endeavors showcase his approach to collaboration. Harnessing his desire to fabricate unique sensory experiences with his creative partners, Colin has worked with artists of many varied disciplines. In March of 2023, Colin joined forces with photographer Kaylin Rodrigues to craft a multi-floor immersive installation for DMOP (Denver Month of Photography). Together, they transformed a conventional gallery space into a vibrant environment designed for lounging, listening, and experiencing their shared creations. Blending Colin’s expertise in video art and musical composition with Kaylin’s keen eye for photography, the installation became a fusion of visual and auditory stimuli, offering visitors an immersive journey through the intersection of light, sound, and space.
Another recent project Colin embarked upon was in collaboration with director and cinematographer Michael Reisinger. They came together to develop a surreal and nearly hallucinogenic visual experience to accompany Lusine’s song Zero to Sixty. Through a blend of dynamic camera work, and experimental video processing, they embarked on a transformative exploration of the song’s themes, inviting the viewer on a voyage through the depths of their joined vision.
Looking towards the future, Colin remains committed to exploring new frontiers of multimedia art and sharing his skills with fellow creatives. He envisions a path forward where collaboration and innovation may converge to unlock untapped potentials in the realm of artistic expression. Colin strives to inspire a new generation of creators and foster a vibrant community united by a shared passion for expanding our collective imagination.
